Richmond abuzz with winter break activities

Indoors or outdoors, Richmond has something
for everyone during winter break.
From family open gym times at local community
centres to parent and child programs at the library, there’s something sure to
interest you.
The free drop-in gym sessions are available
at Hamilton and Thompson community centres, while the main Brighouse branch of
the Richmond Public Library is the place to access the myriad of programs aimed
at kids and their parents.
Britannia National Heritage Shipyards Site
invites you on a 15-minute tour of the shipyards building, or you may prefer a
leisurely stroll through the Richmond Nature Park, swimming at Watermania or
taking in the inspiring and informative Our Journeys Here exhibit at the
Richmond Museum.
A matinee screening of the classic movie
White Christmas will be presented on Christmas eve day—Sunday, Dec. 24 from
12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the Minoru Place Activity Centre, while the City
Centre Community Centre will swing open its doors of Christmas Day—Monday, Dec.
25 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Pre-schoolers can play while the adults work off
holiday meals or just read and relax in the Community Living Room.
Finally, the Tim Horton’s Charity Skate at
the Richmond Olympic Oval on Monday, Jan. 1 is a great way to ring in the new
year. The skate, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., includes free admission with a food
donation to support the local food bank. Free coffee, hot chocolate and
Timbits, plus a family New Year’s countdown will also be included.
